When it comes to choosing a stylish kitchen sink, quartz composite has become a favourite in modern homes – in both vivid shades and timeless colours like black or white.
Homeowners love the premium look and feel of a quartz composite sink, but many assume the material and colours are harder to maintain than a traditional stainless-steel sink.
However, that’s not the case!
SCHOCK is the inventor of the quartz composite sink and the company behind the smooth CRISTADUR® and stony CRISTALITE® materials. Quartz composite sinks are far more practical and resilient than some might anticipate.
So, in this blog, we’re sharing some expert tips on how to keep a quartz composite sink looking as good as the day you bought it.
First, what kind of cleaning products should you use?
When it comes to quartz composite sinks – less is more.
Quartz composite sinks are renowned for being strong, easy to clean and scratch, heat and fade resistant. SCHOCK CRISTADUR® sinks in particular benefit from a smooth, easy-draining and non-porous surface, which means stains, foodstuff and liquid can easily be wiped away.
So, there is rarely any need to use strong chemicals, bleach or abrasive metal cleaning tools. In fact, these might cause more harm than good!
Sticking to gentle, everyday products is key.
Whether you’re a supplier of SCHOCK sinks – or you have a SCHOCK sink in your own home – we encourage you to follow these simple steps to keep your sink looking brand new for longer.
How can you keep a quartz composite sink looking good for longer?
The day-to-day care of a quartz composite sink is simple!
A quick rinse with warm water helps wash away soap residue, food and other particles before they have chance to settle. If water marks are a concern – especially in areas with hard water – then consider wiping the sink dry with a cloth afterwards.
Cleaning little and often throughout the week will make a big difference.
Using just ordinary household cleaners like washing up liquid and a sponge is a great way to clean up everyday spills, stains and marks. For more stubborn grime, a little help from a great product like Bar Keepers Friend should do the trick!
Even light scuffs and scratches from pots and pans can simply be wiped away with a sponge. We recommend using the SCHOCK magic sponge, which can help easily lift tougher stains away.
How can you reduce signs of everyday use?
For a busy quartz composite sink, signs of everyday life can build up and become more noticeable over the years.
So, it’s useful to have the right tools to be able to refresh your sink from time to time.
For this, we recommend using the SCHOCK EasyCare Brightener. Thanks to its chlorine formula, the Brightener creates a bleaching effect that removes all organic discolouration on the sink.
For extra longevity, you can seal the surface with the SCHOCK EasyCare Balm. This creates a protective layer that helps resist day-to-day wear and makes routine cleaning even easier.
How can you remove tough and stubborn stains?
While SCHOCK CRISTADUR® and CRISTALITE® sinks are renowned for their dirt-resistant and easy-to-clean benefits, the occasional stubborn stain can still appear – especially after cooking with oily pans or strong-coloured foods.
A simple way to remove stubborn dirt is to use a gentle or homemade cleaning solution, such as combining dishwasher tablets and water, or using a shop-bought alternative like Bar Keepers Friend. All you need to do is apply the solution, leave to soak and wipe away with a cloth. Easy!
Again, to give the sink some added protection, we recommend applying the SCHOCK EasyCare Balm, which helps seal the surface against these tough and stubborn stains.
How can you avoid limescale buildup?
Limescale tends to show up anywhere water sits or dries, like sinks, taps, shower heads or kettles. This is most apparent in areas with hard water.
Quartz composite sinks aren’t immune to limescale, but the good news is it’s easy to tackle. Simply use an ordinary descaler to dissolve the limescale, just like you would for any other limescale buildup!
For more stubborn grime, we recommend using the SCHOCK EasyCare Descaler. This descaler has been formulated specifically for CRISTADUR® and CRISTALITE® sinks – it works faster, deeper and more safely than ordinary descalers.
Plus, it also prevents germs and bacteria from taking hold which stops build-up from returning quickly.
